Look What Came In The Mail Today!

The proof for A Poet Danced Here arrived today.  This is possibly one of my favorite photos ever.  And not just because my name is in there – oh no, most of all, because it’s there, next to my beloved’s name.  And it’s right there on the spine, too “Lorraine/McClain”  like a wedding.  The Lorraine McClain wedding.  Oh yeah.  That’ll be coming up before you know it!  In the meantime, order your book here.

That is all.

What Is Calling You?

What in your life is calling you,
When all the noise is silenced,
The meetings adjourned…
The lists laid aside,
And the Wild Iris blooms
By itself
In the dark forest…
What still pulls on your soul?

A Blessing

May God bless you with

discomfort at easy
answers,
half truths,
and superficial relationships,
so that you may
live deep within your heart.
May God bless you with
anger at injustice,
oppression,
and exploitation of people,
so that you may work
for
justice, freedom, and peace.
May God bless you with
tears to shed
for
those who suffer from
pain,
rejection,
starvation,
and war,
so that you
may reach out your hand
to comfort them
and to turn their pain into joy.
And may God bless you with
enough foolishness to believe that you
can
make a difference in this world,
so that you can do
what others claim
cannot be done.~ unknown

Through The Wilderness

We do not receive wisdom,
we must discover it
for ourselves,
after a journey through the wilderness
– which no one
else can make for us,
which no one can spare us,
for our wisdom is the
point of view from which we come at last
to regard the world.
The lives
that you admire,
the attitudes that seem noble to you,
have not been
shaped by a schoolmaster.
They represent a struggle and a victory.

Living in The New Era

“The only dream worth having
is to dream that
you will live while you are alive,
and die only when you are dead.
To
love, to be loved.
To never forget your own insignificance.
To never get
used to the unspeakable violence
and vulgar disparity of the life
around you.
To seek joy in the saddest places.
To pursue beauty to its
lair.
To never simplify what is complicated
or complicate what is
simple.
To respect strength, never power.
Above all to watch.
To try and
understand.
To never look away.
And never, never to forget.”
― Arundhati Roy

Learn

“The best thing for being sad is to learn something.
That is the only thing
that never fails.
You may grow old and trembling in your anatomies,
you
may lie awake at night listening to the disorder of your veins,
you may
miss your only love,
you may see the world about you devastated by evil
lunatics,
or know your honour trampled in the sewers of baser minds.
There is only one thing for it then–to learn.
Learn why the world wags and what wags it.
That is the only thing which the mind
can never exhaust,
never alienate,
never be tortured by,
never fear or distrust,
and never dream of regretting.”
~T.H. White, from “The Sword in the Stone”
Thinking of Newtown CT
and the pain of such loss
with compassion and an open heart.
